The 14ft WANDERER was designed by Ian Proctor for Margaret Dye, the author of many books and articles on the pleasures of small boat cruising and sailing single-handed. In her book 'Dinghy Cruising, the Enjoyment of Wandering Afloat' published by Adlard Coles, she illustrates the great potential of WANDERER and explores the whole concept of cruising in sheltered waters.

All WANDERERS are now built with added strengtheners within the hull to facilitate the option of a steel centreplate, which gives added stability and stiffness when sailing in less sheltered/coastal waters. The steel centreplate is replaced with the standard wooden centreplate for Class racing.

A relatively light boat which makes trailing and launching/recovery easy, the WANDERER is also popular with Sailing Clubs/Schools, Scout Groups and Local Authorities for Sail Training purposes and there is an extremely active and friendly Class Association with events organised throughout the season. Whilst you may be at this time considering going the secondhand route I would like to offer for your consideration some very good reasons why you should consider buying new:

  • As from Sail number 1455 all mainsails will have reinforcement to take the newly approved 12-1 kicking strap.
  • The latest sail number and upgrade design modifications.
  • All Boats built from May 1998 comply with the new EU Recreational Craft Directive to Category 'C' status, with Hull Identification Number and statutory builder's certificate of conformity to ISO standards. In our opinion this additional certification will enhance the resale value.
  • Choice of colour/extras and two-tone hull with lead chromate free gel under waterline, very important for future repairs and maintenance.
  • Upgraded and improved Launching Trolley and Road Trailer.
  • Structural reinforcement is now automatically built-in for future conversion to steel centreplate as and when required.
  • Free year's subscription to Wanderer Class Association.
  • All boats are now built with the redistributed buoyancy conversion as standard.
  • The new rolled inner deck design adds strength, is user friendly and ideal for families with younger children.
  • Maxi Bailers are now fitted as standard to all boats.
  • Customise your boat to your precise requirements, whether it be cruising or racing.
  • You will receive a fully comprehensive Instruction Manual to help you with the rigging and maintenance of your Wanderer.
  • Last but not least: A statutory warranty of one year for your new boat.

If funds permit it really makes sense to seriously consider avoiding the hassle, time and worry of purchasing privately by coming direct to Anglo Marine, who have the exclusive licence to manufacture the Wanderer Sailing Dinghy. Should you wish to discuss a full specification and obtain a quotation in line with your requirements please do not hesitate to contact us.

The Wanderer (MD) sailing dinghy, with both standard wooden centreplate and the optional steel centreplate, has been put through stringent inversion/swamping tests and assessed by an RYA/RCD Inspector to achieve the following criteria:

The boat has been given Design Catagory 'C' with a crew limit of between 1 and 4, in accordance with ISO 12217-3. This catagory is considered to render it suitable for use in waves up to 2.0m significant height and a typical steady wind of Beaufort Force 6.

A maximum load of 4 persons plus kit (315kg) has been used for assessing stability and buoyancy. This comprises:
  Crew mass @
73.75kg per person x 4
295kg
  Kit   @
5.00kg per person x 4
20kg
  TOTAL MAXIMUM LOAD:
315kg
The minimum crew weight needed is:
67kg

The Capsizing/Inverting to 180 degree Test was carried out with one person only of 66.55kg recovering the boat with the following times:
Wanderer standard plate - 1 min 30 sec
  Wanderer steel plate
-
1 min 7 sec

This was against a permitted timescale of 5 minutes.

The Swamping Test was carried out with a mass load of 4 adults weighing a total of 294.9kg, with water above the centrecase and the gunwales clear of the water as required.

INSURANCE UPDATE

In March of this year we were approached by Axa Insurance and advised that as from June 1st 2001 we would not be in a position to act as an Agent covering Insurance on any of our range of boats.

This decision has been taken as a result of impending Government Regulations imposing very strict guidelines on all brokers and agents involved in selling and underwriting marine liabilities and offering insurance cover.

As a result of this action we have been in negotiation with Axa and with their approval, have appointed Holland Insurance Brokers to take over our previous agency. Anglo Marine have utilized this company over the last 25 years on other related insurance matters and their new role has our full backing and approval. We know they will provide an excellent standard of service, quick response, competitive rates and a high level of efficiency to all our customers.
